Tinos has a coastline of more than 120kms and hosts some of the most beautiful seashores in Cyclades. Food on Tinos island is very tasteful and of good quality, as many products like cheese, honey, vegetables and herbs are produced on the island by local farmers. | The Marble Villages of Tinos |
There are more than 40 villages in Tinos– some in the hills and others by the coast, but all taking you to an idyllic scene of alleyways, cobblestone streets and a combination of white-cubed houses and bougainvillea-filled courtyards for which the Greek Islands are famed. Some of the most representative and with spectacular sea views are the renowned marble villages which we will visit making various stops and optionally hike from one to the other. Starting from Pyrgos, the biggest and most scenic village in Tinos, wandering its streets gives you the sense that you’re in an open-air museum, with a marble tradition dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. A long line of famous sculptors, hail from the village and Pyrgos continues its artistic tradition with gusto. The ambiance is further enhanced by the Cycladic architecture, flowers and cobblestone streets, as well as the marble ornaments that adorn houses and churches. Isternia is another Tinos settlement built into the mountainside with incredible views of the Aegean. Along with Pyrgos, it was one of the most important marble-sculpting centers on the island, producing numerous renowned sculptors. Apart from admiring the breathtaking views we will visit the Church of Agia Paraskevi, which has a fabulous courtyard view. Heading down to the coast, we will visit Kardiani village. Built into the slope of a mountain and with one of the most spectacular sea views in Tinos, Kardiani has been classified as a traditional settlement by the Greek state. Today we will also visit the house of Mrs Nikoleta in the fertile valley between the authentic Tinos villages. Mrs Nikoleta will welcome you in her house for a farm to table experience.

We continue to the site of the unfinished colossal archaic statue, known also as Apollo, which was “sleeping” in a nearby garden for centuries before its discovery by local farmers. After a glimpse of the island’s ancient past, we drive from the plain to the highlands passing the marble quarries of Naxos. Time for a tasty stop at the mountain village of Apeiranthos, known for its marble streets and medieval architecture, to sample local cheeses with a glass of wine and savor Naxian tastes full of local flavor.
