It’s been a while since I’ve done a natural hair product review. I was extremely excited to receive an invitation to review products from the #1 U.S. Hair Extension Wholesaler out of Atlanta Georgia, called Private Label Extensions. I received their clear and black edge control for review.

Clear Edge Control

I will have to say, that this brand totally shocked me. I am always looking for the next great thing for my tresses. After thirteen years of growing my locs, I took the plunge and decided to comb out my dreads. Although it did take me eight whole days, and tons of conditioners and protein sprays…I am happy to say that I love my natural curly coils.

So of course, edge control is apart of my daily hair routine (honestly, even when I had the dreads, I was an avid edge control fanatic.)

What I Loved

I loved the smell and the feel of these products. They are both non-flaking, which is an essential aspect for me when it comes to edge control. I loved how soft and tamed my edges were. It lasted pretty much all day, so I wasn’t sneaking off to the bathroom to re-tame any disobedient, stubborn flyaways. The softness maintained even into the next day, with absolutely no residue. My hair looked so shiny and healthy. I am also obsessed with its ability to promote hair growth. My edges do appear to be thicker and overall fuller.

What I Disliked

The only thing I disliked was that if you’re not careful, the black edge control can leave a black residue if you don’t allow it time to set into your hair. So be mindful if you plan to use any headbands, as I would suggest you use dark-colored ones.

Make sure that your hands are clean. Be sure that the edges brush (a soft-bristled toothbrush can be set aside just for your edges) is cleaned from any previous usage as it could leave bristles stiff and harsh for use.

Take a small amount of edge control using your fingertips (or brush) and begin to brush the area you want to smooth back.

I highly recommend Private Label Edge Control. My daughters and I are totally in love with these products. Our favorite out of the two is by far the black one. Give Private Label Extensions a try today! Trust me, you will fall in love like we did.

  • This sounds like it would be WONDERFUL for my edges, and that it holds well. Let me go and see what’s in them and move forward. Thanks for sharing!

I don’t know anything about how to take care of black hair. Have several friends who are always trying out different products. Will have to show them this and see if it is something they might want to give a try after reading your post.

  • It’s great that the edge control makes your hair more manageable. It does look a lot better after.

I’ve heard of products like this but was never really sure if they worked. Thanks for this honest review. On another note, I had no idea you could comb out dreads??? I guess you learn something new everyday.

  • What some great sounding hair control products it sounds like you have found something that really works well for your hair.

  • I use to swear by a good edge control when I had long hair. I rock a short cut now so I have nothing to lay. That black edge control is the smartest idea ever.

I’m a natural hair diva and I’m ALWAYS on the lookout for products gentle enough for my natural tresses. This would be great for days when I wear my hair pulled up in a bun and want to tame those flyaway edges.

  • Nice! As a natural hair blogger, we often review new and long existing product lines. Although I don’t often use gels, it sounds like a great product to at least try.

  • I have no idea how this works, but I can see a difference, which speaks volumes. I am sure that a lot of people will find this useful.

Yo your edges are so lit!! I need this!!!

  • Had not hear of this brand. Thanks for sharing. I usually just use aloe gel on mine but sometimes I do need a little extra hold!

These sound like great products for your hair. I’m sure others will appreciate the warning to use dark hairbands until the edge cream has set.

Love the toothbrush tip. I bet brushes made for edging cost a lot more and work the same. Your hair is beautiful.

  • Glad you found a great product to suit your needs. Hair care is tricky and there is so much out there.

Sounds like a product I could use! I’m not very versed at these types of products but it sounds like I could learn from you!

  • One thing I suck at when it comes to my natural hair is actually controlling my edges, all the products I have used flake and don’t give my edges down long enough. I need to give these a try, need to see if I can buy and have it delivered to the UK

I’ve often wanted to try extensions but I have very short hair and would have to let it grow out, which is a pain.

  • These extensions sound pretty cool. Thanks for the tips on application. It is a lot of fun to try and review new beauty products.

  • I have never heard of edge control before now but I would love to try it myself for these dang “baby hairs” that frame my face and stick straight up off my head all day. HA!!

I am terrible at doing my own hair but this sounds like a great product. I’ve never tried extensions before but have wondered about them.

I’ve been looking for a product like edge control for my daughter. I’ll have to give it a try and see if it works with her hair!

  • Your tips are great and it’s really helpful that you added the headband tip. I’ll tell my niece about this product and let her know she needs to wear dark headbands.

I’m not in the know about all the new products but need to be because I’m a natural hair woman! Thanks for the info because the edge control has to be on point!

More manageable hair is definitely something I’d welcome! The older I get the more my hair has a mind of its own, and a stubborn one at that!

I haven’t done any major treatment to my hair but this sounds like a great option. Glad you point out about the headband.

  • Finding a good edge control gel can be so hard. I probably have about 3 different brands in my cabinet right now. lol This product looks like it works great, but the black residue would be a no go for me.

  • Good edge control is always welcome. i’ll have to give this a try

Edge control is a must for my grandbabies and will certainly share this post with their mothers. My step daughter is part owner in a beauty salon and I will share this information with her as well.

I haven’t heard of this but it looks like it laid down your edges well. Hate when your head bands are messed up by grease etc,.

Never heard of this product before. I may have to get me some of this. I am always looking for something that will help me with my styling my hair.
